Agentic AI

Agentic AI refers to AI systems that pursue goals autonomously, use tools, and execute processes end-to-end. Unlike classic generative AI, agentic AI systems act on their own rather than only responding to prompts.

How agentic AI differs from generative AI

Generative AI responds to prompts, for example by producing text or images. Agentic AI acts: it breaks a goal into sub-tasks, calls suitable tools or APIs, checks intermediate results, and drives the process through to completion. Humans define the goal; the agent handles the path.

Typical building blocks

  • Planning logic: decomposing a request into executable steps
  • Tool use: calling external systems (CRM, ERP, APIs, databases)
  • Self-correction: evaluating intermediate outputs and adjusting
  • Persistent conversation: keeping context across many steps
