What You Should Know About Chatbots and Artificial Intelligence

Nowadays, many people are talking about Artificial Intelligence. They discuss robots and chatbots. But what the heck is all this exactly?

In the technical field, difficult, tricky terms are used that are feared everywhere. In this blog article, we have tried to explain the terms “Chatbot” and “Artificial Intelligence” in our own words and in a short and simple way that is accessible to everyone. So let’s start with “Chatbot”.

What Is a Chatbot?

We asked Mara, Customer Success Manager of the LoyJoy Team, to help us out:

“LoyJoy builds chatbots, right? And brands can build chatbots on the LoyJoy platform. But first, can you tell me what a chatbot is exactly?"

"At the most basic level, a chatbot is a computer program that simulates and processes human conversation. It also allows people to interact with digital devices as if they were communicating with a real person.” (Mara Berges, Customer Success Manager)

So now we know what a chatbot is thanks to Mara. Thus, we can go on and learn about “Artificial Intelligence”.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

To find out, we spoke with Jonas, our full-stack software engineer at LoyJoy.

”Jonas, LoyJoy always talks of Artificial Intelligence, but what exactly is Artificial Intelligence?"

"Artificial Intelligence, short AI, is the ability of a computer system to solve problems independently of humans. This is done in an attempt to imitate human behavior in order to achieve comparable learning abilities. In this way, systems that have been trained for specific tasks can be adapted to different inputs.” (Jonas Stübbe, Software Engineer)

“Thank you so much, Jonas. And what use does it have for LoyJoy?"

"Okay. For example, I could prepare some questions about how to say “it’s my birthday”. I would run them through the system and train it with the questions. Later, I could come back and use a different phrase that I didn’t use in the first part. I would run it through the system, and the system would recognize it and perform a predefined action, in this case, congratulate me."

"Ahh, now I got it. Thank you very much for the explanation.”
